Over the many years I've been around horses, ponies,
mules and various other kritters, I  have come across many short cuts,
useful information and a few tricks
to get several jobs and tasks done faster and more effectively
then some conventional
ways (and  cheaper too).  If your short on budget,
but big on horses......
Try some of my.....tips and tricks.

Frequently, there is more then one way to get something done
and giving everyone more choices it always welcome.
I will be eventually posting ideas from others with their
name as the submitter,
It will be some time before I get this all together if ever!

Here's a few tips  to start!

Bridle racks
Sick of using nails that really aren't very good on your bridles
anyway, and really don't want to spend a small fortune for the nice ones?
Try this -
Save your empty tuna fish cans or cans of whatever
you have that are the same size and clean them well. Paint them
any color you like, but gold or black are my favorite
( you can get really creative here!) and put them where you want
to hang you bridles, open end placed flat on the wall and hammer
your nail in the center. Be sure you use a fairly long and sturdy nail
or it will fall off after a couple on times of using it.
These cans are shaped  perfect to place your bridles on!
Now go buy a nice new bridle with all the money you just saved!

Sheath cleaning in the winter
Ok, it's the middle of the  winter, it's freezing
and your geldings has a dirty sheath.
Try this :
Find an old, but clean cotton sock ( white preferred)
and a mixture of bentadine and baby oil (regular size bottle of baby oil&
(or you can use mineral oil, if you think the
baby oil my irritate your horse - any brand with about a
1/2-3/4 inch of bentadine added and shaken well)
and soak the bottom part of the sock ( the toe part) with it
and put the sock on your hand. You may prefer to wear rubber
gloves so you don't get your hand all greasy, I don't because
I have trouble feeling where I'm at! Go into the sheath gently and sort of "wipe"
around on the inside walls of the sheath.
I usually do this several times. It's nothing like good old excalibar
for a good cleaning but, at least it gets a large part of the "gunk"
out and your horse will thank you!
I could fill a stall with all the shavings I've gotten out
of a sheaths by doing this,
not to mention all that black stinky gunk!!
Also works well in cleaning around your mares boobs too!
